In an infographic that was published recently by employee advocacy brand, Post Beyond, the most in-demand skills and characteristics of a social media manager were found by analyzing more than 1,000 job ads on Indeed.
It’s an interesting read. For example, the majority of employers prefer candidates with a Bachelor’s degree. Not surprisingly, communication skills ranked second on the list of most desirable skills.
Over half (51%) of social media manager job advertisements mention media strategy as the top responsibility, followed by paid social and brand awareness.
If you’re wondering what social media managers are typically expected to do, the top mentioned qualities. Managers of social media are expected to manage (69%), develop (67%), and create (64%). At 15%, the least-mentioned term was ‘write’, suggesting that managers focus primarily on leading (41%) and supporting (52%) the wider team.
Finally, in terms of platforms and tools most in demand, Facebook takes the top spot with almost two-thirds (61%) of job roles mentioning the platform, followed by Twitter (57%), Instagram (56%), and LinkedIn (37%).
